Young India opener Shubman Gill was spotted with Manchester City players at their Treble celebrations. Earlier in June, Gill, along with fellow teammate Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma, who attended Man City’s FA Cup final against Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium in London. Pep Guardiola’s men defeated United 2-1 in the match, with İlkay Gündoğan scoring both goals for City.

On June 10, City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 to win their maiden UEFA Champions League title at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Turkey. Apart from the FA Cup title and the UCL title, City have won the Premier League title as well, which completed their treble. The Gujarat Titans (GT) star batter took to his official Instagram handle and shared photos with City stars Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

“Congratulations @kevindebruyne and @erling.haaland for winning the treble,” Gill captioned the post.

Gill fails to impress in WTC final against Australia

India suffered a 209-run defeat against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London on June 11. Notably, this was India’s second straight loss in the WTC final after losing to New Zealand by eight wickets in the 2019-21 cycle final. Shubman Gill struggled with the bat, failing to provide significant contributions in both innings as he could only manage 13 and 18 for the Rohit Sharma-led side.

The 23-year-old’s controversial catch in the second innings against Australia sparked a heated debate on social media, with many criticising third umpire Richard Kettleborough for giving the decision in the favour of Pat Cummins and Co. While the entire Indian team was handed a 100% penalty for maintaining a slow over-rate in the summit clash, the Punjab-born cricketer was given an additional 15% fine on his match fee for showing dissent at the decision of the third umpire.
