India suffered a walloping at the hands of Pat Cummins-led Australia in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval as they slumped to a 10-wicket defeat on Sunday, December 8. Shortly after the disappointing result, former India skipper Virat Kohli went to the nets and started his preparations for the third Test, which will be played at the Gabba in Brisbane from December 14.
Kohli came into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on the back of a dismal run of form in red-ball cricket. He was dismissed cheaply in the first innings of the first Test in Perth. However, he bounced back commendably in the second by scoring his 30th ton in the longest format of the game. India would have hoped that he would go from strength to strength after the morale-boosting knock. However, that wasn’t to be in Adelaide as he was dismissed for scores of seven and 11 in the two innings.
Kohli decided to begin his preparations for the next game and his dedication earned him praise from the iconic Sunil Gavaskar. The cricketer-turned-commentator hoped that other players would also show similar dedication someday. He also asserted that Kohli could get back among the runs in Brisbane.
“By going out in the nets today, shows his dedication. But that is what I would like to see from everybody else. He’s not scored runs. He is very proud of what he achieves and does for India, and because he’s not scored runs in this game, he’s out in the nets,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.
“He’s working hard, he’s sweating, and that is what you want to see. After that if you get out, no problem, because that’s what sport is all about. You will get runs one day, will get wickets one day, next day you will not. But you’ve got to put in the effort. He is putting in the hard yards, he is putting in the effort, and that’s why I won’t be surprised if he’s back amongst the runs in the next game,” he added.
