The spectacular World Cup 2023 campaign which Mohammed Shami underwent was followed by an extended hiatus due to the pacer suffering an ankle injury post the mega event. The extent of the injury was so grave that it ruled him out from any form of competitive cricket for a substantial period of 360 days, before the seamer returned to play a Ranji Trophy Round 5 clash between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

Despite Shami not being at optimal tilt during Bengal’s fixture in Indore, he managed to scalp seven wickets across the match bowling 40 overs in total. The Amroha-born was one of the main reasons for visiting side to clinch an 11-run victory at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.

Recently, Sanjay Manjrekar, discussed the pacer’s prospects at the forthcoming mega auction for IPL 2025 and delved into why the ace pacer might not get sold for the big bucks this time around.

“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history – and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover – there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,” stated Manjrekar while speaking on Star Sports.

Don’t think David Warner can fit in CSK: Manjrekar

The Mumbai-born also delved into the potential prospects for David Warner, and reasoned why five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may not bid for the Australian batter.

“It’s been a few years since David Warner’s performances have been great. But, he is still a great player. When Devon Conway was released by CSK, I was sure they will buy him back. They are quite influenced by Rachin Ravindra as well. I don’t think they will be interested in bringing David Warner into their plans. I don’t think David Warner can fit in CSK,” added Manjrekar.
