In a cricketing tale that echoes triumph at the iconic Gabba, West Indies’ young pace sensation, Shamar Joseph, has reached new heights as his franchise contract gets a significant upgrade to the coveted CWI International retainer contract.

This monumental leap follows Joseph’s stellar performance against Australia, where his breathtaking spell of fast bowling secured a historic victory for the West Indies in Brisbane. The seven-wicket haul marked not only a personal achievement but also a pivotal contribution to the team’s success.

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) decision to enhance Joseph’s contract is a testament to his exceptional contributions. The Gabba in Brisbane, where Joseph’s heroics unfolded, now becomes the symbolic backdrop for this significant career development.

West Indies Cricket’s official Instagram account posted this news and wrote,

“Shamar Joseph’s franchise contract has been upgraded to a CWI International retainer contract in recognition of his outstanding performance in the historic victory vs. Australia at The Gabba.”

Shamar Joseph has created good headache for me with World Cup coming up: Daren Sammy

The recent surge in Joseph’s cricketing career has not gone unnoticed, especially by West Indies’ white-ball coach, Daren Sammy. Speaking about Joseph’s performance, Sammy expressed confidence in his potential as an all-format player. Despite limited exposure to T20 cricket, Joseph’s Test heroics have catapulted him into consideration for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“He will definitely be an all-format player. I can’t wait to get my hands on him in this squad. But look, everything has a process to it. That’s the way myself, and the chairman of selectors operate. What he’s done, he’s created a really good headache for me with the World Cup coming up, building forward in the ODI team,” Sammy was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“We got other guys like Jayden Seales, who’s injured at the moment. So we’re developing a core in all formats that enables us to pick from good positions, guys that are performing and that’s what you want as a cricketing nation,” he added.
