Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan’s spot in the national team is in jeopardy. The all-rounder has been accused of a murder case and recently, Supreme Court lawyer, Barrister Sajib Mahmood Alam on behalf of another SC lawyer Md Rafinur Rahman has served a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), asking the player to be present in the country during the investigation.

As per the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules, a national cricket team cannot field a player on whom a current criminal case is undergoing. However, it hasn’t stopped Shakib from featuring in the ongoing two-match Test series against Pakistan. Currently, he has been asked to come back to Bangladesh but it’s unclear if it would indeed happen.

After the Sheikh Hasina government got uprooted, BCB hasn’t functioned properly. They are slowly getting back to their feet and it can delay Shakib’s arrival in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, as per The Daily Star, no time limit has been given to Shakib about his return, which means the all-rounder can feature in the series against Pakistan.

He is also believed to come to India after the completion of the Pakistan leg. The 37-year-old has made himself available for selection as Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, one of the directors of BCB confirmed. However, the ongoing criminal case on the cricketer can put things in jeopardy.

Notably, a case was registered against his name on August 22 for the killing of garment worker Md Rubel. Besides him and former PM Hasina, 156 named and 400-500 unidentified people have also been accused in the case.

Shakib hasn’t commented on the matter as he is currently playing international cricket. In the first Test against Pakistan, Shakib leaked 100 runs in 27 overs and picked up the wicket of Agha Salman. With the bat, he made only 15 runs. The match is heading towards a draw unless something dramatic happens on the final day.
