Days after the controversial dismissal of English wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes 2023 Test, an almost identical moment happened During a Yorkshire Premier League North match. As York took on Sessay in the competition, a York batter was sent packing in an identical way to that of Jonny Bairstow.

After a rain-ridden game, Sessay aimed to chase down a target of 136 runs in 26 overs. However, Ryan McKendry’s spell put Sessay in a bit of trouble quite early. It was Tim Hall’s knock that helped the side stabilise their innings. After Hall completed his half-century, his batting partner, Diego Rosier, left the crease to congratulate him.

However, the same moment of appreciation led to Rosier’s doom. Completing the run, Rosier left the crease to go and congratulate Hall for his half-century. However, he seemingly midway changed his mind to return back to his spot but in the meantime, the fielder threw the ball back to the keeper, who was stationed at the stumps. Albeit, by the time, Rosier realised what was happening, it was already too late as he was unable to reach the crease in time and was dismissed.

Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in an identical way in Ashes 2023

With Rosier’s controversial dismissal, echoes of the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow followed as well. On Day 5 of the second Ashes 2023 Test, Bairstow left a delivery by Cameron Green and walked out of his crease to have a chat with the non-striker.

However, the Australian wicketkeeper, Alex Carey, saw this as the perfect opportunity as he threw the ball at the stumps without waiting even for a moment, and Bairstow was declared out in the process. Eventually, Australia went on to win that game and strengthen their grip on the Ashes 2023.

Bairstow’s dismissal led to much controversy over the coming days, and many former and current stars came forward to give their takes on the controversial dismissal. English fans were of the opinion that the dismissal was against the spirit of the game and that the Australian players should have withdrawn the appeal.
