Security beefed up in Delhi, Mumbai ahead of Indian team's PM meet and victory parade

The Indian team has left for New Delhi after winning the coveted T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. After the culmination of the tournament on June 29, the team’s departure was halted due to a hurricane in Barbados. Finally, the team left the West Indies shores at 2.26pm IST today and will reach New Delhi on July 4 morning. They will be meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, before leaving for Mumbai. As the team touches down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, security has been beefed up.

The champions will be staying at the ITC Maurya Hotel and the security arrangements have been made for the team from IGI Airport to the hotel. The police have made further arrangements to provide escort vehicles accompanied by armed policemen on their way to the hotel. The team will land in Delhi around 6am on Thursday. Subsequently, they will meet the PM at 11am at his residence.

The security in Mumbai is also being tightened with a flurry of fans expected during the road show. India captain, Rohit Sharma, took to his social media handle to inform the fans about the victory parade. It is worth noting that when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, the whole Marine Drive stretch was jampacked and the parade took hours to cede.
