Australia’s left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of Australia’s upcoming T20I series against Scotland and England. In the series, which is set to begin in September 2024, Johnson will be missing the it due to a side strain that he picked up during The Hundred, playing for Oval Invincibles.

It is worth noting that Johnson will be replaced by all-rounder Sean Abbott, who was only part of the ODI squad that would take on England across five matches. It is worth noting that it was a lacklustre campaign for Spencer Johnson in The Hundred; taking two wickets in six matches, the 28-year-old was unable to make much of an impact.

However, he would have hoped to make the most of his chance with the national team. So far, the pacer has represented Australia in five T20Is and one ODI, where he took six wickets to his name, with everyone of them coming in the shortest format.

It is also interesting to note that Spencer Johnson is being viewed as a direct replacement for Mitchell Starc in Australia’s T20I squad when the position becomes available. Starc has been given a rest in the upcoming T20I series but is expected to be available for the ODI games.

Similarly, ace pacer Pat Cummins will be missing the entire UK tour, with Josh Hazlewood being a part of both the T20I and ODI squads. Australia’s tour will begin with three T20Is against Scotland.

The first T20I will be held at the Grange Cricket Club Ground, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, on Wednesday, September 4. After the three-game series against Scotland, Australia will take on England in a three-game T20I series and a five-game ODI series.
