Team Australia aka the renowned ‘baggy greens’ will be touring Sri Lanka in early 2025 to participate in a two-match Test series. Moreover, the Men in Yellow will also play the sole ODI game in the Island nation.
Notably, the Tests matches will be an important part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle (WTC 2023-25). Speaking of the current standings, the dominant Australia are currently sitting comfortably in the second spot with a total win percentage of 62.5. While Sri Lanka, who were earlier not in a good position, after changes in the team’s coaching set-up, have made a remarkable comeback in the WTC cycle. As a result, they now are placed in the third position with a total winning percentage of 55.56.
Henceforth, the upcoming series will be quite crucial for both Australia and Sri Lanka for their WTC final qualification chances. For the unversed, the WTC final clash is slated to take place in June 2025, at the iconic Lord’s ground.
Speaking of Australia’s experience and journey in Sri Lanka, the last they visited the island nation, the hosts Sri Lanka gave them a tough fight. Consequently, the visitors managed to draw the Test series by a 1-1 margin. While in the limited-overs formats, the Lankan Lions won the ODI series by a 3-2 margin, while in the T20I format, the Men in Yellow completed their tough tour on a winning note by winning the series by a 2-1 margin.
