Indian Premier League (IPL) is the richest league in the world. Cricketers from different parts of the world throng to Indian in the summer to take part in the grandest stage in a two-and-a-half-month carnival of non-stop entertainment. There is a reason the tournament is termed as the richest league in the world. But several reports have emerged that Saudi Arabia is braced to challenge this norm.
For the unversed, Saudi Arabia has long been associated with the IPL. And the country could be seen promoting itself during the tournament in different respects. While several reports suggested that the nation is producing a league richer than IPL, Saudi Arabia’s Prince, His Royal Heigness, Saud bin Mishaal Al Saud, also the chairman of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF), has quashed the rumours.

The Prince added that the Kingdom has no plans to start such a league. For the unversed, taking the ties with Saudi Arabia to next level, IPL 2025 auction was held for the first time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Saud bin Mishaal Al Saud quipped on the sidelines of the auction that the news is “incorrect” and the country is not thinking to start the cricket league of such level.
On the other hand, he welcomed the idea of hosting some of the IPL games in Saudi Arabia in the near future. He also said that SACF will engage in discussions with the BCCI and the Saudi Government in this regard.
“The IPL auction is a major first step. It will help us fasttrack some of our plans. Hosting it would not have been possible without the big support from the Saudi Government and Mr. Jay Shah (the BCCI secretary),” said the Prince, Saud bin Mishaal Al Saud as quoted by Cricbuzz.
