Sachin Tendulkar pays tribute to Lata Mangeshkar on her death anniversary

Legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to the ‘Nightingale of India’ Lata Mangeshkar on her death anniversary on Tuesday, February 06. Mangeshkar is touted as the greatest singer in the history of Indian cinema having lent her voice to over 30,000 songs across 36 Indian languages and a few foreign vernaculars as well.

Notably, Tendulkar shared a heartwarming bond with ‘Lata didi’ and often referred to her as his mother. Recalling her achievements on her death anniversary, the India cricketer was astounded by the number of songs she sang in her career and called her the ‘voice of India’.

“Lata didi recorded over 30,000 songs in her illustrious career. I think that’s more than the number of songs most people listen to in their lifetime. Can you imagine the magnitude of this achievement? She may not be with us today but she will forever live on in the hearts of all Indians. Lata didi is the voice of India. Remembering her fondly on her punya tithi,” wrote Tendulkar on his X account.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 06, 2020 at the age of 92. For her excellence in the field of music, she was bestowed with prestigious honours from the government of India such as Padma Bhushan (1969), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989) and Padma Vibhushan (1999). She was further conferred with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 2001.

Lata Mangeshkar was also featured in Guinness Book of World Records

Mangeshkar had an illustrious career spanning over eight decades where she serenaded generations with her multiple hits. The Indore-born singer was also featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most-recorded artist in history before being replaced by her sister Asha Bhosle.

Her hit songs include titles such as ‘Lag jaa Gale’, ‘Aapki Nazron ne samjha’, ‘Wada Karo’ , ‘Luka Chhupi’ ‘Jiska Mujhe’, ‘Bangle ke Peeche’ and many more. Even four years after her death, she continues to inspire generations of singers who look up to her as an incarnation of Goddess Saraswati who represents education, creativity, and music.
