During the ongoing India-New Zealand second Test match in Pune, former India coach Ravi Shastri pointed out the contrasting training methods of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Shastri mentioned about Kohli’s structured training regime while discussing his approach to net sessions.
Having played alongside Tendulkar during his early years and later serving as the head coach during Kohli’s captaincy, Shastri has closely witnessed the progress and training methods of both cricketing icons.
Kohli’s practice sessions are divided between facing net bowlers and specialized sessions with the support staff, along with bowling arms to simulate various challenging conditions. However, Shastri opened up on Tendulkar’s training style.
“Sachin Tendulkar, in his younger days, had ants in his pants. Every time he got done with his batting in the nets, he would either grab the ball and bowl or do fielding drills. You couldn’t keep him quiet,” Shastri said in commentary for JioCinema.

While the 35-year-old is known for his intense, structured practice sessions, Tendulkar’s method was more organic, driven by an infectious energy that saw him engage in multiple aspects of the game after completing his batting practice.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing Test, the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first and put up 259 runs on the board in their first innings. On the other hand, India lost on wicket in form of Rohit Sharma and had the score of 16/1 after stumps on Day 1.
