The second annual player auction of the SA20 Auction for the 2024 edition will be held on Wednesday, September 27 and will begin at 7:30 PM IST. During the event, six teams will be seen getting into a bidding war to onboard the best talent available from the large pool of players. Each team has to build a squad of 19 players consisting of a minimum of 10 South African players and a maximum of seven international players. Additionally, the teams will also need to select a rookie player who must be a South African.

Several top names from the cricketing world have registered themselves for the auction such as Robin Uthappa from India, Australia’s Kane Richardson, current Pakistan stars Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz, and veteran Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews.

With only 21 players available, fierce bidding wars are likely to be seen during the auction. Each team must sign a rookie player in the draft who should be a South African player younger than 22 years old at the date of the auction and must not have been contracted to SA20 previously. A total of 80 players have registered for the Rookie draft, which will take place after the player auction.

Remaining Purse for all six teams

The Pretoria Capitals have eight players to complete their squad with a purse of $0.577 million, while the Joburg Super Kings will have five slots left with $0.363 million to spend. The MI Cape Town have a purse of $0.331 million for five slots and the Paarl Royals have a purse of $0.525 million to fill four slots. Defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape will have $0.109 million for four slots and Durban’s Super Giants will have $0.102 million to fill two slots.

Star India batter and 2007 T20 World Cup winner, Uthappa could become the first Indian player to feature in the SA20 League if he gets picked up at the auction.
