The third edition of the SA20 will kick off on January 9, with defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape taking on MI Cape Town at St Geoege’s Park. The final of the competition has been scheduled for February 8 at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Meanwhile, SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith has announced that the playoffs of the competition will be played across three venues this season, with Gqeberha and Centurion set to host the playoffs.

After the curtain-raiser, last year’s runners-up Durban’s Super Giants will host Pretoria Capitals at Kingsmead on January 11. On the following day, Pretoria Capitals will be playing their first game as they will host the Sunrisers while on Sunday, a blockbuster clash awaits as Joburg Super Kings will play arch-rivals MI Cape Town.

Meanwhile, the playoff structure remains the same as it was in the second season: four teams will qualify for the playoffs, with the first two playing Qualifier 1, while the teams finishing third and fourth willplay the Eliminator. The winner of the Eliminator will play the loser of Qualifier 1 with a spot for a final up for grabs.

League Commissioner Smith was thrilled to announce the next edition, expecting it to be much bigger and better as multiple international stars including Kane Williamson, Ben Stokes and Dinesh Karthik among others will be participating in 2025.

“Season 3 is set to be bigger and better, with a fantastic line-up of matches that will captivate our fans. We’re thrilled to start the season in Gqeberha with our defending champions and look forward to an action-packed summer of cricket. As we welcome international talent to the roaring pool of local stars, we aim to deliver an unforgettable experience for both players and fans alike,” Smith said.
