The first T20I between South Africa and West Indies ended in disappointment for the hosts. The match saw a delayed start due to rain, which rendered it shortened to 11 overs a side. The visitors had luck with them as they won the toss and elected to bowl first at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Batting first, South Africa got a horrid start as wicketkeeper-batter Quinton De Kock was dismissed for a golden duck. The top order also failed to play some big knocks for their side. However, David Miller did come through for them, scoring 48 runs in 22 deliveries. The hosts managed 131 runs in 11 overs.
Rovman Powell, as the Windies skipper, had a sensational game. Coming in to bat, Powell scored an unbeaten knock of 43 runs and propelled the visitors to an emphatic victory by three wickets.
Next, both teams take on each other in the second T20I on Sunday, March 26. The Windies will be keen on registering their second win and sealing the series, whereas South Africa will look to make a comeback and potentially level the series.
Pitch and Conditions
The surface at the SuperSport Park has been batter-friendly so far, and the side batting second could be at an advantage. There has been some assistance to the pacers with the new ball, but it is expected that the second T20I will be a high-scoring contest, given that rain plays no part.
Probable Playing XI for SA vs WI, 2nd T20I
South Africa
There would be no reason why the Proteas would look to make a change in the squad at a crucial point in the series, while the hosts would look to go into the game with an unchanged line-up, hoping for a different result.
Probable Playing XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram (c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Sisanda Magala, Tabraiz Shamsi
West Indies
Winning the first T20I would have filled the visitors with some much-needed confidence. Skipper Rovman Powell is also expected to take South Africa on with an unchanged line-up as the Windies look to seal the series.
Probable Playing XI: Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Rovman Powell (c), Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, Sheldon Cottrell
