South Africa, high on confidence after their recent World Test Championship 2025 Final qualification, have named their playing combination to enter the second Test of the ongoing series versus Pakistan. The Temba Bavuma-led side announced the Playing XI for the upcoming encounter on Thursday, January 02, and have made as many as three changes from the Boxing Day encounter, which was held at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Now for the upcoming clash, which is set to be played from January 03 at the Newlands, in Cape Town, the hosts have dropped Tony de Zorzi and Corbin Bosch, who have been replaced by Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj. Dane Paterson, too, has been rested for the upcoming game, and left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka has been handed a Test debut.
The 18-year-old made his international debut in August 2024 during a T20I against the West Indies, and the youngster has now been entrusted to handle the pace mantle alongside Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen. Vice captain Aiden Markram, who made an impressive, match-winning half-century in the first Test, has been promoted to open in the Cape Town fixture.
Speaking of Pakistan, the Shan Masood-led side has already been ruled out of the WTC race, but will look to play for pride, as they play their first Test of the year. Soon after the end of the series, the focus will move on to the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and as a result, the visitors will be gunning to return home with a win under their belt.
