Mumbai Indians managed to register their first victory in the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 season. Taking on Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the 20th game of the tournament on April 7, MI put in an excellent performance with the bat in the first innings. After the top-order’s onslaught, it was the knock of 29-year-old Romario Shepherd that stood out for the five-time champions.
Coming out to bat in the middle order, Shepherd scored 39* runs in 10 deliveries, hitting Anrich Nortje for a whopping 32 runs in the final over of the first innings. Shepherd’s blistering cameo helped MI post 234 for 5, their third-highest total in IPL history, before they went on to secure a 29-run victory.

Shepherd’s West Indies teammate Shamar Joseph, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants, was quick to heap praise on the all-rounder’s match-winning performance. In a video released by the IPL on social media platform ‘X’, Joseph congratulated his compatriot and emphasized his ability to hit the ball a long way.
“We come from one area coming into cricket, getting to know him and being around him, he’s such a good fellow. Always gives you advice on how to go about your games and, keep training hard and always just continue doing what you do best,” said Joseph.
“Congratulations. He’s an exceptional player and can hit the ball a long way. So let’s continue good work and enjoy every moment,” the LSG cricketer added.

Shepherd blitz helps MI secure season’s first win
The Caribbean cricketer’s knock helped the Hardik Pandya-led side register their first win after having lost their opening three matches this season. Shepherd’s all-around heroics, which included figures of 1/54, earned him the Player of the Match award.
The all-rounder has been a valuable asset for MI since joining the franchise this year. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him a crucial player in Pandya’s plans as MI looks to bounce back from their disappointing start to the season.
