It has come to light that India skipper Rohit Sharma had offered to give up his share of the T20 World Cup 2024 bonus money to ensure fair compensation for all support staff even before head coach Rahul Dravid’s widely praised decision.

Following India’s historic T20 World Cup 2024 victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded the team a substantial bonus of INR 125 crore. The initial distribution plan allocated different amounts to various team members and support staff.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, Rohit was discontented with the disparity in prize money distribution among the support staff. The skipper, who was set to receive INR 5 crore, volunteered to give away his share to ensure that all support staff members were adequately rewarded for their contributions to the team’s success.

This information came to light through a team member who spoke to the reporter during the chartered flight back from Barbados to India. The source revealed Rohit’s concern about the unequal distribution and his willingness to sacrifice his share for the benefit of others.

Dravid, who was originally slated to receive INR 5 crore, chose to accept only half the amount, putting himself at par with other coaching staff members who were to receive INR 2.5 crore each.

In response to these gestures, the BCCI revised its distribution plan, as the board decided to allocate INR 2 crore each to strength and conditioning coaches, physios, analysts, and other support staff, ensuring a more equitable distribution of the prize money.
