Indian skipper Rohit Sharma graced the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, March 12, to witness the climax of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 between Mumbai and Vidarbha. His appearance highlighted a broader effort by himself, the team management, and the BCCI to emphasise the significance of red-ball cricket. Recent endeavors, including the introduction of incentive schemes by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, aim to prioritise the longer format over T20 and white-ball cricket.
The India opener’s involvement extended beyond mere attendance. Seated in Mumbai’s dressing room alongside Dhawal Kulkarni, he immersed himself in the unfolding drama, keenly observing the proceedings. The Ranji Trophy final has unfurled with Mumbai seizing control from the onset. Despite a faltering start with the bat, posting a modest 224, Shardul Thakur’s resilient 75 anchored Mumbai’s innings.

Their response with the ball proved even more emphatic, as Mumbai restricted Vidarbha to a paltry 105. In the pivotal second innings, Mumbai asserted dominance, amassing a commanding lead surpassing the 470-run mark. Musheer Khan’s scintillating century electrified the crowd, complemented by vital contributions from Shreyas Iyer (95) and Ajinkya Rahane (73), solidifying Mumbai’s stronghold in the final skirmish.

Rohit Sharma walking the talk owing to the recent statement
The 36-year-old had previously highlighted the importance of the red-ball cricket and had given clear instructions to the youngster. He had asserted that going forward the team shall prioritise the players who have the hunger for domestic and Test cricket would be given a green card. Even, Shah was adamant with BCCI’s approach in putting Test cricket on the pedestal.
