Strength and conditioning coach Ankit Kaliyar stated that the opener is very fit and always passes the Yo-Yo Test. Rohit Sharma’s fitness has always been a talking point in the Indian cricket circuit, with a few stating that the former is not fit enough to play Test cricket. However, Rohit has been one of the most consistent performers in all three formats of the game.

Kaliyar even compared Rohit’s fitness with former captain Virat Kohli and added that both of them are equally fit. He explained that Rohit looks a bit bulky but his agility and mobility are “amazing”.

“Rohit Sharma is a fit player. He has good fitness. He looks a bit bulky but he always passes the Yo-Yo test. He is as fit as Virat Kohli. He looks like he is bulky but we have seen him on the field. His agility and mobility are amazing. He is among the fittest cricketers,” Kaliyar said in a chat with the Times of India.

Virat Kohli is a leading example when it comes to fitness: Ankit Kaliyar

Kaliyar stated that it was Kohli who created a culture of fitness in the India team. He mentioned that Kohli injects confidence in others and it is his top parameter in the team. He also added that the Delhi-born cricketer is the leading example when it comes to fitness and the atmosphere he created regarding the same is commendable.

“Virat is a leading example when it comes to fitness. He has created a culture of fitness in the team. When your top player is so fit, then you become an example for others. He injects confidence in others. When he was the captain, he ensured everyone remained fit. Fitness was his top parameter in the team. He has created that culture and discipline in the team. That atmosphere was created by Virat bhai and it’s a commendable thing. He is the reason why all the Indian players are so fit,” said Kaliyar.
