Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s form is not a concern: Aakash Chopra
India captain Rohit Sharma scored six and five runs in the first and second innings respectively in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. He struggled to get going, as did star batter Virat Kohli, who made six and 17 runs respectively. Kohli, in the first innings, tried to play a cover drive and nicked it to slips while in the second innings, a spinner once again got the better of him. However, the batter chose not to challenge the on-field lbw call which would have saved him.
Despite that, former cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that there is no concern regarding the form of the players at the moment. The 47-year-old reminded me that Rohit was in terrific form in the T20 World Cup 2024 while Kohli played a vital knock in the final of the tournament. Chopra also highlighted Rohit’s performance in the series against Sri Lanka.

“I will say it’s not a concern. It happens at times that runs aren’t scored. Runs not getting scored could be a concern if it’s a long patch. They played in the T20 World Cup final and both left at an amazing high. After that, you wish to take a little leave and rest. However, they were sent to Sri Lanka for the ODIs. Rohit Sharma looked very good. He didn’t face any difficulties. Virat Kohli didn’t score runs there and after that, there was no other cricket,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Maybe it would have been better if they had played Duleep Trophy: Chopra
Chopra noted that it probably would have been better if Kohli and Rohit had played the Duleep Trophy. He believes that if the cricketers had played in the tournament, they could have been in the rhythm and might have done well against Bangladesh.

“They didn’t play in the Duleep Trophy and I know there was a question attached to your question, about whether not playing the Duleep Trophy became a cause for concern for them. Maybe it would have been better if they had played because there is no hesitation or shame in playing,” he added.
