In the wake of India’s resounding defeat, suffering a convincing 2-0 series loss to Sri Lanka, Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, distinguished himself as the series’ top run-scorer with 157 runs. Furthermore, he boasted the highest strike rate of 141.44 among all batters from both teams, exemplifying the prowess of his contemporary greatness.

Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, highlighted this achievement and expressed admiration for Rohit Sharma’s conduct at the crease. Ashwin extolled Rohit’s fearless approach and batting prowess, praising him profusely for his exceptional performance.

“One thing that stood up for me in the Sri Lanka series was Rohit Sharma’s batting once again. No matter what is happening, no fear, Rohit means ‘I am going to hit’. As a batter, Rohit is par excellence at this point of time,” stated Ashwin in a recent video released on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin, who himself showcased an expanded repertoire in the recently-wrapped Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 while leading the Dindigul Dragons to victory, lauded Rohit’s exceptional versatility at the crease. Ashwin emphasized how Sharma adeptly executed a broad spectrum of shots against both spinners and pacers. He noted that this strategic diversification was a pivotal factor in Rohit’s success on the challenging batting surface at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where a whole lot of others struggled to settle and accumulate runs.

“Rohit Sharma plays square, sweeps – tries reverse sweeps, when he plays fast balls, he uses his feet to come down the track – he is creating options,” added Ashwin.

The Indian team will not engage in any ODIs until January of the coming year when they will host England for a three-match ODI series. The squad will aim to refine their batting skills on slow, Khettarama-like pitches, anticipating similar conditions for the Champions Trophy scheduled for February.

Regarding Rohit, no significant alterations are anticipated in his playing style. He is expected to maintain his natural, authentic approach across all formats.
