‘Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained’ – Delhi Capitals co-owner spills beans on retention plans

According to Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal, talismanic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is all set to continue his association with the franchise in the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.

There were speculations of Pant potentially moving to other franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction but Jindal’s latest interview has put all of that to rest. The latter said that Pant is “definitely” going to be retained by the Capitals. He also spoke about some of the talented players in last season’s squad who could be in contention for being retained, including Abishek Porel, Tristan Stubbs and Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, he stressed that none of the decisions were final apart from Pant and the final call will be taken after having discussions with their Director of Cricket – Sourav Ganguly.

“Yes, we definitely have to retain. We have some very good players in our team. The rules have just come out, so after discussing with GMR and our director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, decisions will be made,” Parth Jindal told IANS in an interview.

“Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained. We also have Axar Patel, who is excellent, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kuldeep Yadav, Abishek Porel, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, all very good players in our team,” he further added on the matter of retentions.

We’ll see what happens in the auction: Jindal

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released the retention rules ahead of IPL 2025. Each team will be able to retain six players. This can be either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option.

“We’ll see what happens in the auction. But first, as per the rule, we can retain six players. After discussions, we will proceed with the auction and see what happens,” Jindal further added about their retention strategy.

Last year, Delhi finished sixth on the points table after winning seven and losing as many matches under Pant’s leadership. They will want to assemble a strong squad and leave no stone unturned in their quest for a maiden IPL title.
