Star India cricketers Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini, and Harshit Rana are all set to feature in the inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League. The tournament is expected to commence in the latter stages of August 2024, according to Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief and league president Rohan Jaitley.

The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s matches, and every game will be conducted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The franchise auction was held on July 28 and saw the sale of six men’s teams for a total of INR 49.65 crore.

Speaking about the same, Rohan Jaitley took centre stage and revealed that Pant, Saini, and Rana, along with other Indian players, will feature in the tournament. He also revealed that Pant promised to participate, but a lot will depend on his availability for the national team.

“Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini, Harshit Rana and other Indian players will feature in the inaugural season of DPL. I had a talk with Rishabh Pant, and he has promised me to participate in the league, but it only depends on his availability and national commitments. But as of now, he will be playing. Navdeep and Harshit will also feature in the league,” Jaitley said at the trophy inauguration ceremony, according to The Times of India.

The league will surely be a fantastic opportunity: Virender Sehwag

It is worth noting that the inauguration ceremony had a draft of 270 players all across Delhi, including national, U-23, and U-19. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag, who is the brand ambassador of the league, came forward and expressed his excitement for the league. Notably, the former India cricketer’s son has also been selected to play the state-born league.

“The league will surely be a fantastic opportunity to those players who work hard in the nets and didn’t get a chance in any major tournament. When I used to play in my younger days, we didn’t get this type of opportunity to play in different leagues. Now my son is playing I am glad that he will be getting those opportunities, so yes it is a very great opportunity,” Sehwag said.
