Ishan Kishan included in Rest of India squad for Irani Cup

A 15-member Rest of India squad has just been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Irani Cup 2024/25. The roster was picked by the Men’s Selection Committee for the forthcoming encounter against Mumbai to be played at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow from October 1 to 5.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the pack. His deputy will be Abhimanyu Easwaran. The opening duo will be looking to cash in on the new ball. Gaikwad, especially, would want to make a mark as he did not fare as well in the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy.

Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal have been drafted as well. The left-handed batters will look to make merry against a competitive Mumbai bowling lineup.

Another southpaw, Shashwat Rawat, who impressed one and all in the Ranji Trophy as well as the Duleep Trophy found himself amongst the big boys. Last season’s Ranji Trophy and this season’s Duleep Trophy’s top run-getter, Ricky Bhui, has also been bestowed with a grand opportunity to establish yet another indelible mark in his career.

Ishan Kishan, who is making gradual steps towards making a comeback into the national groove, finds himself competing with Dhruv Jurel for the wicketkeeping spot. However, Jurel will only be allowed to feature for the RoI squad if he doesn’t get picked for India’s second Test against Bangladesh, which will be played from September 27 in Kanpur.

The same case which applies to Jurel bears on Yash Dayal as well.

The pace attack other than Dayal consists of Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Prasidh Krishna. The spinners given a chance are Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, and Rahul Chahar, making for a truly diverse bowling department.

The release also authenticates that Sarfaraz Khan will be able to feature for Mumbai, subject to his non-participation in the Kanpur Test.

Rest of India squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Abhimanyu Easwaran (vc), Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shashwat Rawat, Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal, Khaleel Ahmed, and Rahul Chahar.
