Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak and Mumbai’s young spinner Himanshu Singh have been reportedly asked to join the India camp in Chennai on September 12. Ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, the duo will likely be the net bowlers and train with the senior India squad.

Notably, Yudhvir can click over 140 kmph and can tonk massive sixes lower down the order. Representing LSG, he played just three games in IPL 2023 and clinched three wickets at an economy of 8.75. In 2024, he played only two matches, picking only one wicket.

He spent a season with current India head coach Gautam Gambhir at the LSG camp. That might have played a role in getting a call-up as a net bowler. Meanwhile, a source close to Yudhvir already confirmed the development and called it to be a stepping stone to get into the national team.

“He received a call yesterday and was asked to report to Chennai on 12th September. It is great news for him– a stepping stone to make it to the Indian team,” a source close to Yudhvir was quoted as saying by KSportsWatch.

Himanshu meanwhile hasn’t made his debut for Mumbai’s senior men’s team. However, he has done a terrific job in age-group cricket, which helped him earn a call. A source close to Himanshu noted that BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was impressed with the development of the Akola-born and that he had been tracking his progress for quite some time.

“Ajit Agarkar (India’s chief selector) and his co-selectors have been impressed with Himanshu for a while and have been tracking his progress. He is tall (six foot four inches) and has an action similar to that of Ashwin,” The Times of India cited a source as saying.

India’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh will begin on September 19 and the first match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The second Test of the series will be played in Kanpur.
