Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been dominating bowlers for more than a decade across all formats of the game, but the batting superstar’s exploits are not limited to the field only, as he has emerged as a global icon, thanks to his staggering fan following. A latest report has claimed Kohli to be one of the richest athletes in the world, with an estimated net worth of Rs 1050 crore.
A couple of lean years with the bat has done no harm to Virat Kohli’s stardom, as the cricketer recently became the first Asian to reach 250 million followers on Instagram. In fact, the Indian batting maestro is only behind football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the third most followed athlete on Instagram.
While Kohli’s fan-following should not come as a surprise to anyone, given the craze surrounding cricket in the country, social media plays a vital role in the Indian stars’ revenue. According to Bengaluru-based trading and investing company StockGro, Kohli fetches Rs 8.9 crores and Rs 2.5 crores per post on Instagram and Twitter, respectively.
Talking about Kohli’s sources of revenue, the senior batter is placed in the highest salary bracket for Indian cricketers, with his annual contract worth Rs 7 crore. While his IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore fetches him a staggering sum of Rs 15 crore per annum, the cricketer earns Rs 15 lakh per Test, Rs 6 lakh per ODI, and Rs 3 lakh from a T20 match.
