Gautam Gambhir has had an unexpected start to his coaching stint with the Indian team. The former India opener, who joined the Indian camp as the Head Coach replacing Rahul Dravid, is under the scanner after team’s dismal outings. Under him, India lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka and then endured a whitewash at the hands of New Zealand in Test series at home.
Things have not panned out well in Australia in the marquee Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 either, as Australia are leading 2-1 with a game to go. With the criticism at its peak the players are questioning the over the communication aspects within the team and the unrest has arose withing the dressing room.

The report further stated that Gambhir’s communication is not as effective as it was with the former coach Dravid. The veteran is also being compared with the former India cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri who had his own ways of conducting the team. It is worth noting that Gambhir’s appointment raised eyebrows as he had no prior coaching experience apart from his time with the KKR at the IPL.
Gambhir’s position in jeopardy
It is also reported that the 43-year-old’s way of keeping the players in dark over their exclusion has not gone down well within the team. India captain Rohit Sharma allegedly insisted on speaking personally with the player over their inclusion on exclusion in the team. But ever since Gambhir has joined the camp, the players are unaware about the decisions taken concerning them.

“There is a Test match to be played and then there is Champions Trophy. If the performance doesn’t improve, even Gautam Gambhir’s position wouldn’t be safe,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“His equation with the selection committee is also not particularly clear at this point,” a BCCI source added.
