The Mumbai Indians (MI) camp appears to be in unrest with reports of a growing rift between senior players Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya. With MI’s dismal IPL 2024 campaign, tensions seem to be boiling over behind the scenes.
Pandya was named MI captain before this season, replacing the long-serving Rohit. This decision did not go down well with many MI fans, who felt Rohit deserved to lead the side after guiding them to five IPL titles.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the divide between the two camps came to a head recently when Rohit and Suryakumar abruptly left the nets upon Hardik’s arrival for a practice session.

The report states that the former MI skipper was batting when Pandya arrived, and he immediately ended his session. He was then joined by Suryakumar and Tilak Varma in leaving the nets, avoiding any interaction with the current MI captain.
Rohit’s abrupt departure suggests he may still be unhappy at being removed from the captaincy after over a decade. MI’s on-field performances have done little to ease the situation. They have won just four of their 13 matches, becoming the first team eliminated from playoff contention this season.

Hardik’s leadership has come under scrutiny as well, with many questioning if MI made the right call in replacing Rohit. They will face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last game of the IPL 2024 run on May 17 at the Wankhede Stadium.
