The apex cricket governing body of Indian cricket, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), unveiled the new retention rules ahead of the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) mega auctions. The new rule states that franchises can retain up to six players including a reintroduced rule of one uncapped player. Other than this, the Indian board had also revealed the price caps for the retained players.

The rules stated that the first three retained players would get a price of 18 crore, 14 crore, and 11 crore, respectively. The next three retained players including the uncapped retention shall get 18 crore, 14 crore, and 4 crore respectively. But as per the latest upgrade, a franchise can use their 75 crore funds for retention with utmost flexibility with no capping being mandatory.

With this development, as per the Times of India, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are mulling over sharing an equal price between their star players Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad. It is worth noting that, Jadeja has been with CSK since 2012 and Gaikwad succeeded MS Dhoni as the skipper in 2014. Notably, Dhonni had stepped down from the leadership role in a bid to give the franchise ample time to groom and mentor the star opener Gaikwad under his able guidance.

Chennai will aim to avoid missing out on RTM option during IPL 2025 auctions

Hence as per the latest permutations and possibilities, an equal pay scale could be the norm for some star players ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2025 edition. Notably, Jadeja was CSK’s highest retention before the previous mega auction.

If the five-time champions decide to retain four players then the 18-crore price slab for two players would become unavoidable. Interestingly, should the Chennai-based IPL franchise opt to retain six players, then they will be left with no RTM options as per the latest rules and regulations of the coveted league.
