Excitement is building ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) mega auctions. With the new set of rules, franchises are in a conundrum over players to retain and release. One particular franchise whose retention list will garner much attention is Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Notably, the sight of LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka venting out at KL Rahul after a loss in the league game in IPL 2024 has fans pouring in their wish to see Rahul play for another franchise in IPL 2025. In the aftermath of the incident,
Goenka has cleared that Rahul would be retained. However, he refrained from commenting on the Captaincy future.
However, as per reports from NDTV Sports, LSG is planning to use the Right To Match (RTM) card in the auction and the player in contention will not be Rahul. The report further added that though the franchise has an option to use the RTM for Rahul, they might do it for the Australia all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis.
“While LSG has the option to exercise the RTM for Rahul, the chances of that happening are remote – virtually nil. They may do it for a player like Marcus Stoinis,” the report claimed.
Rahul interested in joining former franchise RCB for the IPL 2025 season
Speaking of KL Rahul, the Karnataka batter has been associated with LSH since its inception in 2022. Under him, the franchise reached the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, respectively. But they bowed out of the league stage in the 2024 edition of the IPL. With the Geonka-Rahul incident refusing to cede in the minds of wicketkeeper-batter fans, they have kept churning out the possibilities of him joining his former team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

It is worth noting that, Rahul played for RCB in 2013 and 2016, respectively, before assuming services for Punjab in 2018. If rumors are to be believed, given Rahul enters IPL 2025 auctions, RCB is planning to go all guns blazing in a bid to get the local boy back in their camp.
