In a major development for Cricket Australia, star pacer Josh Hazlewood is unlikely to be fit in time for the upcoming Test series between Australia and Sri Lanka. It is worth noting that Hazlewood had sustained an injury halfway through the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Furthermore, with a new report coming forward, it was informed that the Australian selectors are not willing to take a risk with Hazlewood’s health and they are in no rush to bring him back for now. It is worth noting that Australia has qualified for the final of the World Test Championship, and with the conditions in Sri Lanka, Australia can afford to let Josh Hazlewood make a full recovery.

Interestingly, Australia did not feel Hazlewood’s absence in the BGT due to Scott Boland putting in a brilliant performance as his replacement for the Aussies. Apart from Hazlewood, as per Sydney Morning Herald, Australia skipper Pat Cummins will also miss the series against Sri Lanka. Cummins will be missing the tour due to the birth of his child, which will see the Aussies field a bowling attack led by Mitchell Starc.

Australia set to take on Sri Lanka from January 29

The Australian team managed to put in an excellent performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Having lost the first Test in Perth, the Aussies won the clash in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney and clinched the BGT after many years. Defeating team India, the side punched their ticket to the WTC final as well, where they will take on South Africa.

Furthermore, the side’s next assignment comes against Sri Lanka. Australia will take on Sri Lanka across two Tests and one ODI. The first Test of the series will be held at the Galle International Stadium on January 29. Furthermore, the second Test will be held at the Galle International Stadium as well from February 6, with the only ODI scheduled on February 13.
