Team India’s bowling contingent is set to receive a massive boost as star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return to the fray ahead of this year’s Asia Cup in September, according to the latest reports. Bumrah, who is recovering from a back injury, is expected to feature on India’s tour of Ireland in August.
Jasprit Bumrah’s aspirations of representing the Indian team in the T20 World Cup last year ended in heartbreak as the Australia series in the lead-up to the ICC mega event, aggravated his injury that had seen him miss Asia Cup 2022. The Indian pacer underwent surgery on his back, missing the entirety of Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2023 campaign and the World Test Championship Final at The Oval.
However, the Men in Blue have finally received some positive news as the star pacer is expected to travel to Ireland for India’s three-match T20I series in August. Bumrah, who is currently recuperating at the NCA, will take part in the series as India prepares to reclaim the Asia Cup title in September before the all-important ODI World Cup.
“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take field,” an official told News18.
Earlier, it was reported that the Indian pacer was expected to return to the side for India’s Asia Cup 2023 campaign. However, an official revealed that Bumrah’s rehab, under the watchful eyes of Nitin Patel and S Rajnikanth, has progressed smoothly, hinting at the pacer’s early return.
“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,” added the official.
