The announcement of India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 may face delays, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly asked for an extension from the International Cricket Council (ICC). While the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee was expected to reveal the provisional squad by January 12, according to a Cricbuzz report the announcement may now take place around January 19.

According to the guidelines, ahead of every ICC event, participating teams are required to submit a provisional squad at least one month before the tournament. However, the ICC has requested teams to name their squads five weeks in advance for the 2025 edition, set to begin on February 19 in Pakistan and the UAE.

Meanwhile, ahead of the prestigious tournament, the Men in Blue are set to feature in a three-match home series against England, scheduled for February 6, 9, and 12, with the ODI squad being similar to the Champions Trophy squad.

India to announce T20I squad for England series

Furthermore, the selection committee is expected to announce India’s T20I squad for the five-match series against England within days. The T20I roster is unlikely to feature significant changes, with players like Arshdeep Singh continuing to lead the bowling attack. Players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, absent from recent T20I assignments, are not expected to return for this series.

Interestingly, Mohammed Shami, who last represented India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, is expected to make a comeback after regaining full fitness. Washington Sundar and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also strong contenders. Meanwhile, players like Nitish Kumar Reddy are unlikely to secure a spot in the ODI squad but may retain their place in the T20 setup.
