Reports: Gujarat Titans set to retain Gill and Rashid for IPL 2025, Shami overlooked

Reports: Gujarat Titans set to retain Gill and Rashid for IPL 2025, Shami overlooked

Renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) are all ready to retain one of the biggest names of Indian cricket and their current Captain, Shubman Gill. Moreover, GT has also indicated that the star Afghanistan all-rounder, Rashid Khan, will also continue to serve the team, ahead of the deadline set for the IPL 2025 retentions.

Apart from them, the talented Sai Sudharsan was also in the limelight for being retained with the side. However, in what will be a piece of booming news for the Gujarat fans, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is unlikely to be retained owing to his injury concerns. When it comes to uncapped players, youngsters like Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia are likely to be retained ahead.

“Shubman, Rashid, and Sai will be retained by the franchise,” said an IPL source as per India Today.

Notably, Shubman Gill is often regarded as the next big thing and the future leader of Team India. The Fazilika-born has already led GT in the IPL 2024 edition. However, the former champions found themselves struggling in the eighth spot in the 10-team competition. Interestingly, in their IPL debut season, the franchise went on to script history by lifting the IPL gold in their first attempt itself. At that point, India’s prime all-rounder Hardik Pandya led the side in their inaugural season.

Besides, with speculations around Rashid Khan being approached by Mumbai Indians, the source confirmed that Khan will most likely continue ahead with GT. The talismanic leg spinner claimed 19 wickets in the IPL 2022 season and bettered it with 27 victims to his name in the subsequent season. Albeit, in the 2024 edition of India’s biggest cricket carnival, he had a lackluster season with the ball in hand as he managed to pick up just 10 wickets. He featured in 12 matches where he averaged 36.70.
