The apex cricket governing body of the country, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been quite proactive in the last few weeks, especially after Rohit Sharma and Co. lost the five-match Test series against Australia to relinquish the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade.

On Saturday, December 11, the cricket governing body held a review meeting which was attended by the Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar, Skipper Rohit, and the Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir.

According to reports, the BCCI is set to implement new guidelines for the players in the aftermath of the disappointing result Down Under. As per the guidelines, cricketers’ wives will not be able to stay for an entire tour. A cricketer’s family will be allowed to stay for a maximum of two weeks during a 45-day tour. Also, every player will have to travel by team bus. Traveling separately is not going to be allowed.

India started well with a win in Perth in BGT 2024-25

Team India had a good start to the series against Australia as they won the first Test by 295 runs in Perth. However, they went on to lose three out of the next four Tests. With the result, the Asian giants were ousted from the race to the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Australia are set to face South Africa in the summit clash later this year.

India was in a great position to make it to the finals. However, back-to-back series defeats against New Zealand and Australia quashed their hopes. Also, the form of senior players like Rohit and Virat Kohli has come under scrutiny. While Rohit managed only 31 runs across three Tests, Kohli fared slightly better, scoring 190 runs from five games.

The performances of Yashasvi Jaiswal (391 runs from 10 innings) and Jasprit Bumrah (32 wickets from five matches) were the only bright spots for India. The Men in Blue will return to the longest format in June when they take on England.
