BCCI officials are extremely unhappy with the Indian team’s performance in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The Rohit Sharma-led side couldn’t pose any kind of threat and suffered a humiliating 3-0 series defeat, which is also India’s first Test whitewash at home in 24 years.

The governing body in recent times has taken several measures to protect the future of Test cricket. However, following the home debacle, they feel that the time is arriving soon for a massive overhaul. The form of senior cricketers- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been questioned and as per a source close to BCCI, they might have played their last Test together at home.

Furthermore, the source also added that the upcoming Australia series was extremely important and in case the team fails to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) finale, a call will be made immediately and changes will be seen in the England series next year.

“Stocks will be taken certainly and it could be of informal nature since the team leaves for Australia on November 10. But this has been a huge debacle but, with Australia series round the corner and the squad already announced, there won’t be any tinkering,” a senior BCCI source told PTI as quoted by NDTV.

“But if India doesn’t qualify for WTC final in England, one can be rest assured that all four super seniors won’t be on that flight to UK for the ensuing five-Test series. In any case, all four have likely played their final Test at home together,” the source added.

India need to win Test series against Australia to keep WTC final hopes alive

Team India need a 4-0 win in the five-match Test series against Australia to cement their place for the third consecutive WTC final. It’s not going to be an easy task for the players and beating Australia on their home turf can prove to be tricky, especially when the stakes are high and their position in the playing XI is at risk.
