The debate on whether the length of Test matches should be cut down to four days emerged once again on the sidelines of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. A lot of experts and players have mixed views on this matter.

The Boxing Day Test is in a position where all three results are possible in the game where the hosts are still unbeaten on a score of 228-9 and are leading by 333 in the second innings. The match will go down to the final day where India will want to get the final wicket as soon as possible and hope that the batters do the job to either draw or win the Test match.

There was also an ongoing debate this season on whether Test matches need to be shortened to four days, however, Australian star pacer Mitchell Starc does not believe in having four-day long Test matches.

“We’ve got 98 overs tomorrow (Day 5). This why we’ve got five days for a Test match and really stick it up those who want four days!” Starc told ABC.

Starc on his workload and declaration plans on Day 5

Apart from his views on whether Test matches should go on for just four days, Starc also shared about his workload to which he, without any hesitation, said that he is not bothered about it at all.

“It’s not something that is bothering me. My pace is up … If I need to bowl 20 (overs) tomorrow, I’ll bowl 20,” said Starc.

He also answered the question on the possible declaration plans on Day 5.

“You’ll have to ask Pat Cummins… you’ll have to ask the brainstrust,” Starc added.
