Mumbai and Vidarbha are currently locking horns in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2024 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The fans witnessed some excellent shows on Day 1 (March 10, Sunday) of the game.

Meanwhile, Mumbai batters Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Prithvi Shaw made the day of young fans memorable with their astute gesture. On Day 1 of the Ranji final, the three Indian players were spotted signing autographs for young fans who were enjoying a day out. The children looked quite happy and excited to meet the star players in the video, which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“Wonderful Support. Lovely Gesture. Smiles. Autographs. Selfies. @ajinkyarahane88, @ShreyasIyer15 & @PrithviShaw made the day special for the kids who came out in full force to support the cricketers at the Wankhede Stadium #RanjiTrophy | #Final | #MUMvVID,” BCCI domestic captioned the video.

Vidarbha 31/3 on Day 1 stumps after Mumbai fold for 224

Speaking of the game, Vidarbha won the toss and opted to field first. After being put to bat first, Mumbai suffered a middle-order collapse after starting well with the opening pair. However, a fantastic effort from Shardul Thakur saw them reach a commendable total of 224 runs in their first innings. Thakur, batting at No. 8, scored a stunning 75 off 69 deliveries, including eight boundaries and three maximums.

Harsh Dubey and Yash Thakur were the key for Vidarbha, both claiming three-wicket hauls. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav made two scalps. On the other hand, Vidarbha ended up in a dangerous situation in the last session of Day 1, losing three wickets for just 31 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane (7), and Shreyas Iyer (7) had a terrible day with the bat on Day 1. Following a substantial opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani, Mumbai struggled against Vidarbha’s bowling attack. Out of the three batters, Shaw was the only one who appeared confident during his innings, scoring 46 runs off a mere 63 balls.
