In the ICC Test rankings for bowlers released on Wednesday, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin lost six points to lose his dominance on the numero-uno spot, and backtracked a bit to settle for joint-first with England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson.
In the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Indore, Ashwin couldn’t perform up to his reputation, picking up only four wickets in two innings. On top of that, India yielded to Australia, and accepted their first loss of the tournament by 9 wickets.
This took a toll on Ashwin’s overall rating, causing him to lose points and supremacy on the list, thus having to settle for a joint-first position. Currently, both Ashwin and Anderson are at the top of the chart with 859 points apiece. Despite missing bulk of the ongoing series on account of his mother’s illness, Australian skipper Pat Cummins finds himself on no.3 and is ten points short of Ashwin and Anderson.
Rabada and Lyon improves as Jadeja occupies no. 8 position
South African speedster Kagiso Rabada, who has a total of 807 rating points, has climbed up to the fourth position following his amazing bowling performance against West Indies at Centurion. Rabada took 6 wickets in the second innings and acted as the destroyer-in-chief for the Carribeans.
In the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Nathan Lyon dominated Indian batters with his exceptional spin bowling and clinched 11 wickets. Grabbing figures of 3/35 and 8/64, he became the ‘Player of the Match’ and also made his entry into the top-10 of the ICC rankings for bowlers.
Racking up 769 points, he is placed at number nine and follows India’s Ravindra Jadeja, who is ranked eighth. With 21 scalps in three Tests, Jadeja is also the highest wicket-taker for India in the 2022-23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, so far.
