Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face each other for the second time in Qualifier-1 of IPL 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 23, 2023.
Chennai Super Kings will be coming into the contest on the back of some stellar performances in the league stages, they finished the league stage with a solid 77-run win over DC. All CSK players stepped up when the team needed them the most.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, will be heading into the game on the back of a Shubman Gill’s masterclass in the previous two games. Gill scored two consecutive centuries in the last two games, one against SRH and one against RCB. GT has never lost to CSK in the history of IPL.
For CSK, the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway have been brilliant throughout the tournament. Devon Conway has so far aggregated 585 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 53.18, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has amassed 504 runs at an average of 42. In the bowling department, Tushar Deshpande has picked 20 wickets in 14 games, while Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana have managed to pick 17 and 15 wickets, respectively. CSK will look to continue their winning momentum and will be keen to make a mark against GT, whom they have never defeated in IPL.
For GT, the batting department is all about Shubman Gill, in a team where not a single batter has managed to score over 300, Gill single-handedly has aggregated 680 runs in 14 games at a phenomenal average of 56.67. Currently, the Fazilika-born is placed second in the list for batters with the most runs in the IPL 2023 and is now the main contender for Orange Cap. In the bowling department, both Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are on the top of the list with 24 wickets each and they currently share the Purple Cap. GT too would look to carry the winning momentum ahead and will aim for their fourth consecutive win against CSK.
M.A Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report Batting or Bowling:
The surface at the MA Chidambaram Stadium is getting slower with each passing game. Thus, the toss is really important. Batting first will be ideal but since GT have a really strong bowling attack, which can defend any total, they can choose to bowl first as well. Anything above 170 will be a good total on this surface.
CSK vs GT Head-to-Head Record:
In three games played between the two teams, Gujarat Titans have sealed victory in all three games, while CSK is yet to open their account.
