Another edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to take the cricket fraternity on an exhilarating ride. The ninth edition of the cash-rich league gets underway on Saturday, February 17, with defending champions Lahore Qalandars taking on Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Last year, PSL witnessed several riveting contests between bat and ball. While most of the matches saw truckloads of runs being scored by both teams, low-scoring thrillers were also stuffed in between. The average first-innings score was a whopping 191. The 28th match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans in Rawalpindi saw a total of 515 runs being scored.

Star overseas players like Jason Roy, Sikandar Raza, Rovman Powell, Rassie van der Dussen, Kieron Pollard and many more will be in action during the league, which will conclude with the summit clash on March 18 in Karachi. However, unfortunate injuries have ruled out some renowned players who could have enthralled the fans with their mesmerising skillsets.

Pakistan’s new white-ball captain Shaheen Afridi and experienced wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan will continue leading Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans respectively. Babar Azam, who relinquished captaincy of the national team after the ODI World Cup 2023, will be leading Peshawar Zalmi once again after taking the team to the playoffs last season. Meanwhile, all-rounder Shadab Khan will continue as captain of Islamabad United.

Pakistan’s new Test captain Shan Masood will lead Karachi Kings, replacing Imad Wasim, who has shifted base to Islamabad. Destructive South African batter Rilee Rossouw, who had a terrific campaign with the bat last season, has moved to Quetta Gladiators from Multan and is set to replace Sarfaraz Ahmed at the helm.

Matches of the PSL 2024 will commence on Saturday, February 17, at 8 pm for the games where a single match will be played on a given date and day. While for the doubleheaders the games will resume from 2.30 pm as per Indian Standard Timings (IST).
