Prithvi Shaw has delivered an innocuous message to the selectors following his omission from the T20I squad for the West Indies tour and the 2022 Asian Games. The 23-year-old batter took to his official social media handle and shared a clip of himself doing batting practice while it rained fiercely.
The right-handed batter has played only one T20I for India against Sri Lanka in 2021 and was called up for the home series against New Zealand early in 2023. However, he did not get a chance to feature in a game in that series and has been dropped for the forthcoming away series against the West Indies.
Shaw posted a video of his batting practice in the rain on his Instagram story.
Shaw also discussed being rejected by the selection committee in a recent interview with Cricbuzz and Wisden. The 23-year-old revealed that no one from the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) had told him why he had been omitted, but someone had later suggested that a potential issue might have been his fitness. Additionally, he claimed that he later went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and cleared all the tests there.
Shaw did not have a season to remember with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) as he scored only 106 from eight matches, including a half-century at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.70 and was even dropped from a few of Delhi’s matches after a string of low scores.
The 23-year-old most recently participated in the 2023 Duleep Trophy for West Zone. He played a crucial role in the final against South Zone, scoring 101-ball 65. However, his effort was fruitless as West Zone lost the title clash by 75 runs.
