Pant plays Test cricket the way you play in the colony says Ajay Jadeja (Photo Source: Jio Cinema)
Rishabh Pant made a resounding comeback to Test cricket after almost two years. He last played for India in whites back in December 2022 but a horrible car crash meant he was ruled out of all action for more than a year and a half.
However, it barely felt that he had left as the southpaw looked in great touch in the first Test against Bangladesh at Chepauk, notching up his sixth Test century on September 21. He played his usual unorthodox shots, leaving former cricketer Ajay Jadeja in awe of his batting.
The Indian colony cricket is well known to the world as that is the scratch every cricketer once said they started from. There will not be conventional techniques like keeping the bottom hand loose, elbow high, and, timing the ball more than hitting it. Jadeja likened this to every aspect of cricket played by Pant and added that the wicket-keeper batter is extremely responsible.

“When you see Rishabh Pant, it seems like he is casual and doesn’t pay too much attention to his game. But you can see from the way he talks and plays that he is a thinking cricketer. He got injured and was out for close to 600 days but if you remember, before his injury, he was almost next in line to lead India,” said Jadeja speaking to Colors Cineplex.
“He takes risks, so you feel at times whether he is responsible or not. I think he is extremely responsible in his game. This one year has probably left him a little behind, people have gone ahead, but he is a guy who takes the entire team along. This guy plays Test cricket the way you play in the colony,” he added.
Pant also equalled MS Dhoni’s tally of six centuries in Test cricket to become the joint-highest in terms of most centuries as an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. Pantsmashed 13 boundaries and four maximums in his 109 runs off 128 balls.
