Pakistan’s white ball and red ball coaches, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have come forward and asked the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) to not act in haste and sack the captains of the respective formats. The decision has been discussed in length due to Pakistan’s performances across formats.

Star batter Babar Azam was removed from the side’s white-ball captaincy after the ODI World Cup 2023, and his replacement Shaheen Afridi was sacked after one bad series. Furthermore, after Babar Azam resigned from leading the side in Test cricket, Shan Masood was named the captain of Pakistan in the longest format.

However, under Masood’s leadership, Pakistan recently lost a home series to Bangladesh, and there had been calls for Masood to be removed. However, a source in the known recently came forward and debased the claims, stating that there have been no discussions of Masood and Babar being removed as captains.

“There has been no discussion on changing the captains as the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has left it up to the two coaches and selectors to decide on the captaincy,” the source was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

“And Kirsten and Gillespie are very clear that Shan and Babar both need to be given a proper run before judging their leadership abilities,” the source added.

The source stated that both Kirsten and Gillespie want continuity in their players and the skippers. Furthermore, the discussion on the changing of captains is not going to be up for discussion when the board holds its one-day workshop titled Cricket Connection later this month in Lahore.

“That workshop is being held to hear the views of all stakeholders, mainly the domestic team coaches, selectors and contracted players so that the board is able to bridge the gap between domestic cricket and international cricket standards, The workshop is basically being held because both the coaches want the domestic team coaches to have a clear picture of what is required from them to ensure a flow of players who can be considered for selection for the national teams in all formats,” the source said.
