PAK vs BAN, 2nd Test: Nahid Rana’s coach reacts after impressive four-fer in Rawalpindi

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana picked up a crucial four-fer in the second Test of the ongoing series, which helped the visitors restrict Pakistan to 172 runs in the second innings. It also gave Bangladesh the hope to win the match and seal the Test series against Pakistan.

Rana, known for his sheer pace, ran through the middle order, picking up crucial wickets of Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel and Abrar Ahmed. He was highly impressive with the red ball and also troubled Mohammad Rizwan a lot of times during his stay in the crease.

Ahead of the tour to Pakistan, Rana was seen practising hard in the nets. He was training alone and later revealed that he bowled eight overs in the heat to get better at reverse swinging. The 21-year-old isn’t shy about grinding hard and talking about that, his Dhaka Premier League and Bangladesh Premier League coach Talha Jubair mentioned that the pacer has the drive and expects him to do well for the national team.

“Yes, he has that drive. I have seen him from pretty early and if he did not have that, he would not arrive at where he is now. Whatever I told him, he took care of those aspects word for word,” Talha told The Daily Star.

Have to let him bowl at pace: Talha

During the U19 level, Rana was known for bowling multiple no-balls. As per a report, he wasn’t part of the U19 World Cup because of the same. Later, Nahid’s local coach Alamgir Kabir from Chapainawabganj worked with him to fix the issue, which helped him crack into the national team.

“I sent videos to Alamgir bhai to work on his run-up and requested that he only worked on run-up. His smooth action will allow him to bowl at more pace in future, but it is his accuracy that will make the difference.

“He is still young. If you tell him to keep runs in check rather than bowl at pace, he will not be Rana anymore. You have to let him bowl at pace. You can’t tell him not to bowl fast, but rather get accurate at pace. I worked with him in BPL too and told him not to compromise on pace, rather talked about his lengths. He gets extra bounce, so his lengths need to be fuller, and I talked about that,” Talha said.
