India continued their winning run at the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Saturday, October 14. After the match, when the team returned to the hotel, the wives of some of the players, who had also gone to cheer the ‘Men in Blue’ in the stadium, were present. Virat Kohli went to Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh and gave her a warm hug.

Virat’s wife Anushka Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin’s wife Priti Ashwin, were also standing nearby. Virat went on to shake hands with Priti after hugging Ritika as Anushka looked on. During the match, the camera was panned on multiple occasions to Anushka and Ritika, who were sitting beside each other, watching the match, in which India brought out a dominating performance against Babar Azam’s men.

India make it 8-0 over Pakistan, equal record of most wins against an opponent in CWC

Rohit Sharma and Co. extended India’s flawless head-to-head record in the marquee event against Pakistan to 8-0 after Saturday’s comprehensive victory in the ODI World Cup 2023. Now, this is the joint-best head-to-head record for a team against another in the history of ODI World Cups. Interestingly, it is Pakistan, who have an 8-0 head-to-head scoreline against Sri Lanka in the marquee event.

After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first, citing the dew factor. The ‘Men in Green’ had set a solid platform on the back of Babar’s half-century. At 155/2 in the 30th over, Pakistani fans would have expected their team to get somewhere close to 300 at the end of the innings. However, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Babar and what transpired from thereon was nothing but a nightmare for Pakistan. They lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs to get bundled out for 191 inside 43 overs.

In reply, a fit-again Shubman Gill hit four boundaries before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi. However, Rohit Sharma continued from where he left in the previous game against Afghanistan and played an enterprising knock of 86 off 63 balls. Virat Kohli missed out as he was dismissed for 16. However, Shreyas Iyer scored his maiden World Cup half-century and finished the match alongside KL Rahul in the 31st over to give India their third consecutive win in as many matches in the tournament.
