ODI World Cup 2023: South Africa’s strongest predicted playing XI against Bangladesh

Having romped the defending champions England by 229 runs in their previous fixture, South Africa successfully rescued their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 after an embarrassing loss against the Netherlands. Despite going into the game without their captain Temba Bavuma, the Proteas dominated England in all three departments as they posted a massive score of 399/7 in their allotted 50 overs as Heinrich Klaasen (109 off 67) scored a sensational hundred.

In the second innings, England were blown away by the South African bowling attack as they were bundled out on 170 in just 22 overs. Courtesy of their massive win, South Africa retained the third spot on the points table with three wins from four matches having six points to their name. Having beaten the defending champions comprehensively, South Africa will be eager to continue their winning momentum as they lock horns with Bangladesh on Tuesday, October 24 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

In order to do that, they will once again have to field a strong playing XI against the Bangla Tigers:

Top Order: Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen

Quinton de Kock started the tournament in emphatic fashion as he scored back-to-back hundreds against Sri Lanka and Australia. However, he was dismissed cheaply in the following two matches against Netherlands and England.

The wicketkeeper-batter is the leading run scorer for his side in the ongoing tournament with 233 runs from four innings at an average of 58.25 and a strike rate of 108.87 with two hundreds to his name. Having failed to go big in the last two games, the 30-year-old will look to go big against Bangladesh.

Temba Bavuma missed out on the fixture against England as due to illness and will be eager to contribute with the bat if he makes a comeback to the XI. The South African skipper has scored just 59 runs from three innings in the tournament so far and will be looking to notch up a big score against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Rassie van der Dussen, who’s been in sensational form will take the third spot. The 34-year-old started the tournament with a brilliant hundred against Sri Lanka and later scored a crucial 60 in the last game against England. Van der Dussen will look to once again play an important knock for his team.

Middle Order: Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller

Aiden Markram began the tournament by shattering record books as he registered the fastest hundred in ODI World Cup history off just 49 balls against Sri Lanka. He further scored crucial 56 and 42 against Australia and England respectively. Markram will look to once again notch up a big score against Bangladesh.

Heinrich Klaasen played a scintillating innings of 109 off 67 balls helping his side to post a massive score of 399/7. Klaasen has scored 198 runs from four innings so far at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 139.43. The 32-year-old will look to help his side get another crucial two points with a win against Bangladesh.

David Miller hasn’t fired yet for South Africa but played a couple of handy knocks against Sri Lanka (39* off 21) and Netherlands (43 off 52). After getting dismissed for just five against England, Miller will look to bounce back with a big innings against Bangladesh.

All Rounder: Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen has done complete justice to his role of the all-rounder as he’s scored 122 runs from four innings at a magnificent average of 61 and a strike rate of 127.08 with one fifty. He played a brilliant counter-attacking innings of 75* (42) against England with the help of three fours and six sixes.

Apart from his batting heroics, Jansen is also the joint-highest wicket-taker for his side with eight wickets from four innings at an average of 26 and an economy of 6.93.

Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee

Kagiso Rabada has done a phenomenal job being the leader of the pace attack having scalped eight wickets from four innings so far at an average of 22.12 and an economy of 5.74. The speedster will look to continue his brilliant run with the ball in the upcoming fixture.

Keshav Maharaj has done a good job in the middle overs having kept a tight hold on the game and not letting the batters get away. The left-arm spinner has picked six wickets from four innings so far at an average of 26.16 and an economy of 5.06.

Lungi Ngidi has also been among the wickets for the Proteas as he’s given good support to Rabada and Gerald Coetzee. Ngidi has picked six wickets from four innings at an average of 25 and an economy of 5. The right-arm seamer will look to give another match-winning performance against Bangladesh.

Gerald Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers against England registering figures of 3/35 in four overs. Coetzee picked up the big wickets of Jos Buttler and Harry Brook to pile on the misery for the Three Lions. The right-arm speedster is the second-highest wicket-taker for his side with seven wickets to his name from three innings at an average of 22.85 and an economy of 7.61.
