India continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as they beat England in their sixth game at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed the reigning champions By a mammoth 100 runs despite scoring an underpar 229 after being put to bat first, with Rohit scoring 87 runs off 101 balls. The Indian bowlers then ran riot from the beginning of the second innings, bowling England out for 129 runs in 35 overs.
Mohammed Shami contributed to India’s victory by taking two wickets in a row. After Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets, Shami removed Ben Stokes for a duck and then removed Jonny Bairstow on the first ball of his next over to strike on consecutive deliveries. Even though India failed to score a reasonable total, the two quick wickets from Shami were extremely crucial for the hosts. Moreover, the star pacer went on to claim two more wickets, sending back Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

Shami delivered a stunning ball that got England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes. The English batter was unable to cope with the pace and lack of bounce and eventually gave in to the ball. He failed in his attempt to move to the leg side and departed for a ten-ball duck, becoming Shami’s first success in the match.
In his subsequent delivery, Shami removed opener Bairstow for just 14 runs. The right-hander received the ball above the wicket and it was delivered on a firm length near the off stump. The batter inside edged the ball onto his body and it deflected off his legs to strike the stumps.
