The Indian team extended their winning streak to six matches in ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating England by 100 runs in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. After scoring just 229 in the first innings, India needed a herculean effort while defending, and the bowlers and fielders were up to the task.
After the comprehensive win, India’s fielding coach T Dilip announced KL Rahul as the ‘best fielder’ of the match. This was the second time the wicketkeeper-batter won the medal. He had also won the coveted prize for his performance in the game against Pakistan on October 14.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with innovative ways to announce the best fielder of the match. After the game against Bangladesh in Pune, the giant screen displayed Ravindra Jadeja’s picture while Shreyas Iyer’s photo was carried down by the Spidercam following the previous match against England. This time, the floodlights went off at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow and KL Rahul’s name and jersey number popped up in the stands.
KL Rahul’s important partnership with Rohit Sharma set the foundation for India
India got off to a flying start against England in Sunday’s highly-anticipated ODI World Cup clash courtesy of some lusty blows from the in-form Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. However, three quick wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer stemmed the flow of runs and put the pressure back on the ‘Men in Blue’.
Rohit was going strong but he needed someone to give him support. KL Rahul joined him with the score at 40/3 and the two experienced batters managed to weather the storm. They put on a 91-run stand for the fourth wicket off 111 deliveries and helped the home side recover from a spot of bother. Rahul has scored 216 runs in five innings in the marquee event thus far and has a mind-boggling average of 108.
